1.0 INTRODUCTION
Primary Education has a mandate to supervise and provide Education ranging from Pre- Primary Education and Primary Education.
Primary Education Department has to ensure the following;
• Availability of teaching and learning materials
• Availability of school infrastructure both qualitatively and quantitavely.
• Availability of teachers according to number of pupils.
• Education provision to pupils with special needs.
2.0 PRE- PRIMARY EDUCATION
Kigamboni Municipal Council has a total of 44 Pre Primary Centres, among these 32 are Government owned and 12 are Non Government owned, these Pre Primary Centres have a total 3,284 Pupils where by 1,753 are Boys and 1,531 are girls. The Government owned Pre- Primary Centres have a total of 2,696 Pupils whereby 1,438 are boys and 1,258 are girls.
Non Government owned Centres have a total of 588 Pupils of which 315 are boys and 273 are girls, Pre Primary Education is being offered in all Government owned Primary Schools and also in Non Government owned Pre Primary Centres.
3.0 PRIMARY EDUCATION
Kigamboni Municipal has a total of 43 Primary Schools, among these 32 Primary Schools are Government owned and 11 are non Government owned, both Government and non Government owned Primary Schools have a total of 31,501, among them 15,805 are boys and 15,696. Government owned schools have a total of 29,256 whereby among these 14,621 are boys and 14,635 are girls. Non Government owned Primary Schools have a total of 2,245 Pupils whereby among these 1,184 and 1,061 are girls, The Government owned Primary Schools have a total of 590 teachers, among these 200 are Males and 390 are Females
